F-1 STEM OPT and Working Remotely Outside the US

While taking standard paid vacation is acceptable, working remotely from outside the US to meet OPT employment requirements carries significant legal risk. Since COVID-19 allowances ended, performing OPT work from abroad falls into a gray area for SEVP compliance. It is strongly recommended to avoid remote work from outside the US, as it may be viewed as unemployment or create entry challenges with CBP.
