CBP Highlights What to 'Know Before You Go' for Holiday Travel

Washington — With the holiday travel season upon us, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reminding travelers that there are several important things they can do to ensure smooth and efficient processing upon arrival in the U.S.
As of Aug. 10, 2012, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) no longer provides admission stamps on Forms I-20/DS-2019 for prospective and returning international students and scholars (traveling with F, M, and J visas) seeking admission to the United States. This change makes CBP processes consistent with U.S.
Using the Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program to expedite their clearance upon arriving in the U.S., more than a million international travelers have already substantially reduced their travel time. Run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the program streamlines the screening process at 25 U.S. international airports for pre-approved international travelers using biometric identification. Participants use automated kiosks to present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, use the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration.
Summer is one of the busiest international travel times in the U.S. and with the start of the travel season this Memorial Day, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is reminding travelers of some important tips. With increasing passenger volumes due to a nine percent increase in travel and tourism since February 2011, there are things returning U.S. citizens or residents, and international visitors can do to help speed their processing.

Alexandria Bay, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations today announced the opening of the Cape Vincent port of entry. Cape Vincent is a seasonal port and will be open from May 1 until Oct. 31. The CBP hours of operation are 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Alexandria Bay, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations announces a change in the operating hours for the dedicated NEXUS lane at the Alexandria Bay Port of Entry. Starting March 1st, the new hours of operation for the dedicated NEXUS lane will be from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Frequent cross-border travelers are encouraged to participate in the NEXUS program, which allows pre-screened, low-risk travelers to proceed with little or no delay into the United States and Canada.
