Applications must be completed by hand and mailed directly to the Passport Office in Wellington or to the nearest New Zealand Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
How To Apply
- A Passport Application form must be filled out.
- Proof of New Zealand citizenship must be supplied.
- Proof of identity must be supplied.
- Two (2) identical photos must be supplied.
- The appropriate fee must be paid.
Documents must be originals not photocopies.

Applications Processed Overseas
If you are applying for a passport while overseas please check the correct fees with the office where your application will be processed.
Applications Sent to New Zealand
When applications are sent to us from overseas you will need to make your payment in New Zealand currency at the exchange rate of the day. The fee must be paid by a cheque or bank draft in New Zealand dollars drawn on a New Zealand bank.
Urgent Service Fee
The urgent fee can be waived or reimbursed when written evidence from a doctor, hospital or Police is produced showing that the need to travel is due to bereavement or serious illness.
Callout Service Fee
The callout fee can be waived or reimbursed when written evidence from a doctor, hospital or Police is produced showing that the need to travel is due to bereavement or serious illness. This fee is only charged once where a group is applying at the same time.
