New Resources for Adult Citizenship Education Programs

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has several new resources for citizenship instructors, volunteers, and program administrators in the Citizenship Resource Center. These free resources include:

  • Volunteer Training Modules
These eight short modules teach basic strategies for volunteers to help applicants prepare for the naturalization interview and test.
  • Tip Sheets for Instructors
New tip sheets provide instructors with basic educational strategies to prepare students for the reading and writing portions of the naturalization test.
  • Lesson Plans
Citizenship instructors can use USCIS lesson plans, handouts, and activities to teach American government, history, and civics content. The latest lesson plans are designed for intermediate level students. Beginning level lesson plans are available as well.
  • Elements of Program Quality
Design, enhance, or evaluate your adult citizenship education program using the Elements of Program Quality. This document describes the key components of a high-quality ESL and citizenship instruction program.
