Reentry permit is not a guarantee

Printer-friendly version

I acquired my green card in January 20, 2010 with an expiry date of 2/23/20. I came back to the Philippines on February 2011. I want to go back to the US next year around March. Do I have a problem?

Generally speaking, a reentry permit is not a guarantee. It is merely an official declaration of your intention not to abandon your green card. Normally, the govt. does not question it. But if there are facts that make them suspect that you either never established or never intend to establish permanent residence in USA, they can take you to immigration court to take away your green card.

Reentry permit

Me and my daughter both have Permanent Resident. My daughter came back to the Philippines on March 6, 2013 and our Card Expires: 03/12/23. But unfortunately we didn't apply for her a re-entry permit. I am so worried that she can't come back here to the US. We don't have any intention to abandon her citizenship. Please help us what to do for her to come back. she went back to the philippines just to see my parents for a couple of months. Thank you!

Reentry permit

Usually, a visit outside for a few weeks is not a problem. But I do not understand your comment about the green card expiring. You must speak with a lawyer and make sure there are no issues that can hurt your daughter's status.
